THALASSOTHERAPY TREATMENTS Seawater is used for baths, showers, mud therapy, sandtherapy, seaweed, inhalations, irrigation therapies, aerosol, nebulations. The benefits derive from plancton, that has an anti-batteric effect, and from the saline contained (in average 35 grams per liter, but 42 in the Red Sea and even more Dead Sea).
As long as it is not poluted, seawater can be used for both internal and external use, to cure and prevent several affections. With it areosol inhalations are done.
Some centers prescribe the assumption of seawater as a drink, diluted and often sweetened with the adjunct of fruit juice.
In Italy sand treatment is particularly considerable, thanks to the fineness of the sand and the good coefficient of heat absorbment of the sand of our sand locations and the right level of sun heat . In the sand the people are lied down in a hole, covered with a thin layer of sand and left in it for 10 to 20 minutes.
Another application of talassotherapy is the balneotherapy with seawater heated at 38°. The baths exercise a thermical action ( that facilitates the circulation and oxigen of tissues), chemical (the body absorbs the elements present in the water), hydrodinamical ( the movements are followed with less muscular fatigue). Among the applications of talassotherapy one of the most important is the one with sea silt or salty lake silt , its solid components include sand and ''seawatered'' clay, salts and other organic minerals. The applications are effected on the whole body or only on some parts, at a temperture of about 40°and are completed, after a resting time of 10/20 minutes, with baths in seawater.
At last the treatments with seaweed, upgrade the effects of balneotherapy in the sense of more contribution of minerals and oligoelements. Seaweed can be employed fresh of dry, with local applications, made with the heated product or disolved in seawater for baths.
